Our annual one-day, free and family-friendly festival takes place on/at the beach in VENICE.CA… The event’s name comes from the urban-legendary Venice hot-spot, The AZZ IZZ Jazz Club, Cultural Center and Teahouse… We also dedicate the festival to Saxophonist and visionary, Billie Harris, who opened and ran the AZZ IZZ throughout the 70s.

With love and thanks to Billie and his to Wife, Cookie, for all the times they took in the funny little boy from down the street [NONSEMBLE co-founder and Festival Director, Jason Sugars] when he was growing up, a block or two away on West Washington Blvd - the street now known as Abbot Kinney Blvd.

We also take inspiration and spiritual leads from the ‘REBEL JAZZ FESTIVAL’ - presented in 1960 by the maestro, Charles Mingus - with more than a little help from his partners, Max Roach, and fellow Los Angeleno, Eric Dolphy - protesting Newport Jazz Festival!

JAZZ… the sound found all around…

THE NONSEMBLE is on a MISSION to support established and emerging artists - across the country and around the globe - while keeping this very American musical artform going and growing...

Our VISION is a world where all the people that love the music continue to imbue it with their own culture and heritage… while learning to love the creators as much as they love the art.
